可能你會(huì)脫口而出I'm waiting for the red light，那可就大錯(cuò)特錯(cuò)了。Wait for是“等...來”，所以wait for the red light的意思其實(shí)是“等紅燈出現(xiàn)”。

因此，等紅燈的正確說法應(yīng)該是wait for the green light或者可以說wait for the red light to change。

綠燈是green light，但除了“綠燈”的含義，還有一層引申涵義表示“準(zhǔn)許”。Give sb. the green light就是“準(zhǔn)許某人做某事”的意思。

例：The government has decided to give the green light to the plan. 

政府已決定為這項(xiàng)計(jì)劃開綠燈。
