【場(chǎng)景】Caroline向Hwang（追債人）詢問(wèn)了Han的欠債情況，并想通過(guò)分期方式支付，聽(tīng)到Hwang說(shuō)出了3萬(wàn)美元后，Caroline跟Max都對(duì)“Han在女子網(wǎng)球上輸了3萬(wàn)”表示吃驚。而一旁的Han趕緊岔開(kāi)話題，想用另種方式還上欠款。

【講解】

figure sth/sb out vt. 算出；想出；解決；理解；斷定。

擴(kuò)展settle（解決問(wèn)題，糾紛），solve（解決問(wèn)題，困難），figure out（好好的思考以理解）。

settle 指排除猶豫、懷疑和爭(zhēng)論之后作出明確的最終結(jié)論。

solve 普通用詞，含義廣，指為有一定難度的問(wèn)題找到滿意的解法或答復(fù)。

【例句】

He's trying to figure out a way to solve the problem.

【講解】

on the shelf = not noticed or not used 被忽視的；被擱置的；廢棄的。

be on the shelf 束之高閣，廢棄的。

mainly UK informal（通常指女子）年齡太大而找不到對(duì)象的。
